Västervik snoekwedstrijd - the European Pike Competition

Van 25 september tot 2 oktober 2010 wordt het weer feest in Västervik. Er is natuurlijk maar een snoekwedstrijd en dat is die in Västervik. Gekend als een waar snoekeldorado is de wedstrijd in Västervik niet zomaar een wedstrijd. Uniek is de beleving.

Je vist een wedstrijd, maar je hebt totaal niet het gevoel in een wedstrijd te zitten. De competitie wordt bewust klein gehouden. Klein in die zin dat iedereen welkom is, maar dat er niet meer plek is dan voor achtendertig teams, dus zesenzeventig snoekvissers. Dat is nog veel wanneer je al die mannen in een klein hoekje drukt, zoals wel vaker met dit soort evenementen het geval is.

Uniek is de beleving.

In Västervik overkomt je dat niet. Je vist namelijk in drie verschillende baaien. Elke baai is een kleine 25 kilometer lang, waarin dus maximaal dertien boten vissen. Verdeeld over… tja, die vindt je niet gelijk terug en dat is ook de bedoeling. Elk team krijgt een camera mee, wat elke dag door de begeleidende jury boot overhandigd wordt.

Na de wedstrijd wordt die camera weer ingenomen en die krijg je de volgende dag weer terug. Je vist ook elke dag in een andere baai, dus drie in totaal. Je vijf grootste snoeken, die je met de camera en een meegegeven meetplank gefotografeerd hebt, worden als eind resultaat opgeteld.

Heb je het goed gedaan, dan heb je kans niet minder dan € 8.000,- cash mee te krijgen, want dat is de hoofdprijs.

Prachtige, handgemaakte prijzen ter herinnering.

Veel geld dus, maar wanneer je de eerste prijs niet wint, dan is de tweede prijs ook de moeite waard. Een set van twee klassenhengels van I.T.T / Bertus uit de Seducer serie, en een Visvinder GPS met 7”scherm van topmerk Seiwa / Techmarine.

Derde prijs alweer een set hoogwaardige hengels van I.T.T / Bertus uit de One2 serie, een visvinder van Seiwa / Techmarine met alweer een 7 “scherm.

Wie de grootste snoek vangt krijgt een set van alweer twee hengels van I.T.T/Bertus uit de Provoker serie en een visvinder van Seiwa / Techmarine met een 5” scherm.

Nou zijn die prijzen natuurlijk de moeite waard, maar wat het snoeken in Västervik zo bijzonder maakt is de mogelijkheid echt veel snoek te vangen. In alle wedstrijden die de afgelopen acht jaren zijn gehouden, zijn in de wedstrijd nooit minder dan 1000 snoeken gevangen.

Je vist drie dagen in de wedstrijd maar voor de wedstrijd en erna worden ook nog eens grote aantallen de boot ingebracht. Gek genoeg, of komt dat omdat de spanning er dan af is, worden na de wedstrijd veel meer grote vissen gevangen. Oh ja, het gemiddelde ligt vrij hoog en wordt ook elk jaar wat groter, dus ook daar hoef je je geen zorgen over te maken.

- COMPETITION RULES EPC 2010 -

Below is a list of rules that need to be followed during the duration of this Competition
• Check In for the competition is:
• Saturday 25 Sept 2010 14:00 – 18:00
• Sunday 26 Sept 2010 12:00 – 14:00
• Competitors are NOT allowed to be in the competition area, with any kind of fishing equipment or fishing, in the time from 13 - 25 September 2010
• The competition area consists of three extensive sections: A, B and C
• Lots will be drawn for the order in which teams will fish the various sections
• 50 hp are the motor horsepower limit. No boat sizes limit
• Boat engines over 25 hp have a delayed start - 30 minutes - from assembly point and must end fishing and return to assembly point 30 minutes before end time
• Teams which arrive late at the assembly point will have to relinquish their camera
• If this occurs during day 1 the team will be issued with a new camera for day 2, minus the number of exposed photos from the previous day
• If this occurs during day 2, the team will be issued with a new camera for day 3, minus the number of exposed photos from day 1 and day 2
• If this occurs during day 3, the team will be disqualified
• Use of echo sounders and GPS equipment are permitted
• Teams are NOT allowed to come closer than 100 meters to each other during competition time
• All competitors must wear life jacket or similar
• All teams must have a mobile phone and leave the number to the competition staff if case of emergency
• Every angler can take a selection of rods and artificial baits on the boat, but only ONE rod can be used at a same time
• Spinning is the only permitted method of fishing
• Trolling is not permitted
• Fishing with live or dead bait is not permitted
• Keep nets or other similar equipment to hold fish are NOT permitted
• The philosophy of “Catch and Release” should be encouraged at all times
• Each team will be provided with a single-use camera by the organization
• Fish must be photographed closed to the measure board.
• Fish that are NOT held to the board will not be counted
• Pike which have been caught will be photographed and compared against a measuring tape
• All pikes MUST be returned to the water immediately after measurement and photography
• Only pike longer than 50 cm will be eligible in the competition
• Fish must be held in a descent way (NOT to harm the fish)
• The combined length of the team´s five (5) longest pikes will be the basis of the team´s overall total
• The team with the highest total wins the 1st Prize - 8000 euro in cash!
• There are numbering of other prizes; ‘longest fish of the competition’ etc.
• A three person jury will study the photographs and select the winner
• The jury´s decision is final
• Too much wind or heavy fog can stop a day´s competition
• The jury decides the limit
• A canceled competition day will NOT be compensated with an extra day
